S. Walter Kran, M.D., FACR

Dr Walter Kran, a San Leandro resident for 40 years, enjoyed practicing medicine at two area hospitals for nearly 30 years.

His patient care experience began with pre-medical coursework at UC Berkeley. After attending the University of Chicago Medical School, Dr. Kran served in the United States Air Force as an officer in the Medical Corps. Between 1962 and 1964, he was stationed at Travis Air Force Base.

Dr. Kran returned to San Leandro where his hard work and commitment to quality patient care were recognized by his peers. In 1973, his colleagues elected him to the Chief of Staff.

Dr. Kran's proudest achievements as physician and Chief of Staff include:

• Established a Nuclear Medicine Department at San Leandro Hospital
• Instituted the first mammography program in the region.
• Set up the first CT Scans and MRI services in the area.
