I believe that a school board member has a responsibility to make as informed decisions as are possible. This means receiving detailed information from staff as well as receiving input from the community. The board member needs to be accessible to be informed.
The board member also needs to be able to work as part of a governance team, so that the relationship between the board and the superintendent will result in the most positive and safe environment for our students, teachers and parents.
The board member needs to make as fiscally sound decisions as is possible, knowing that the pool of discretionary dollars is very limited and the impact of many fiscal decisions leave results for many years.
The board member realizes that all students deserve the right to a safe and challenging education.
Information is power and informed decisions are the duty of every school board member.
I am proud to serve with the current board members as we serve the community's educational interests.
