Completion of a new highg quality school site

By Mark D. Bergstrasser

Candidate for Board Member; Wasco Union School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Complete a school site that is high quality and suits the needs of the students.
The district has had a school site for several years and has had availability of funding for some time. Until just recently, preparation and construction has been slow at best. The public needs to be kept aware of what the current status of the school site is, how it is planned, and when it is to be completed.

The current process is to keep all information internal and only divulge details as staff sees fit. Most of the citizens of Wasco do not know that a school is being constructed, that the plan calls for all portable classroom construction, or when the school will be operational. The public has the right to know and the elected board has the responsibility of keeping the public informed of progress. Additionally, the public should have been called upon to help determine the configuration of the school. While portable classrooms are a needed commodity in education with fluctuating student attendance, they should never be part of a permanent solution.

As an elected board member, I will work to keep the public informed of the progress of the new school and will work with the public to have their opinions heard and considered as the project continues. Further, I will work to ensure that the project does not suffer the same delays as every other construction and remodeling project undertaken by the district in the last 10 years.
