Bringing Honesty, Integrity and Experience to the Midway City Sanitary DistrictBy Vivian Kirkpatrick-PilgerCandidate for Board Member, 4 Year; Midway City Sanitary District | |

When I ran in 2004 for this office, I was running to maintain the sound financial policies that were keeping the district financially sound. I think I have lived up to that.I have now served on the Midway City Sanitary District for nearly two years (as of election time it will be 2 years). I have worked hard to keep the district financially strong, as well as getting the infrastructure up to date with the ability to serve the current population with some growth built in. For years the district did not raise rates (much to it's credit), but as esculating costs, inflation and aging infrastructure began to catch up with the District; these issues needed to be addressed. Biting the bullet and raising rates to cover these costs was something that really ran against what I believed; but there was no other way. With 50 year old Pump Stations and Forced Mains (with the average life of 25 years) we were looking at some serious issues. If not addressed, and a pump failure took place, sewage could have backed up in our City. It could have created some huge liabilities. Instead these issues have been addressed and plans are moving forward to replace and refurbish those pump stations and upgrade the capacity in many lines; and replace the forced mains so the "stuff you don't see" will be running safely beneath us to where it is supposed to go, rather than backing up in a place we don't want it to be. |
