By Laura Taylor

Candidate for Council Member; City of Citrus Heights

This information is provided by the candidate
"Hello, I'm Laura Taylor and I'd like to take a moment and introduce myself to you."
Laura Taylor has lived in Citrus Heights since 1992. Transplants from Southern California, Laura, and her husband John, moved to Citrus Heights because they knew it was the ideal place to raise their family.

Laura has served the community as the President of the neighborhood organization REACH (Residents' Empowerment Association of Citrus Heights) and was the REACH representative to the Chamber of Commerce. As a member of REACH, Laura created the "Heroes of Citrus Heights" project which recognized the contributions of the unsung heroes in our community. She has been an active neighborhood advocate bringing residents and local businesses together to help increase the community's understanding of and inter-action with local government.

Laura was appointed to the Community Services and Facilities Committee by Roberta MacGlashan (now Chair of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors). She is an 11-year volunteer with the Placer SPCA and wrote the business plan for and launched their successful PetMobile mobile adoption program in 2001.

She is currently serving as a Planning Commissioner under the appointment of Council Member Dr. Jayna Karpinski-Costa. As a Planning Commissioner, Laura recently co-chaired the Citrus Heights Mobile Home Rent Stabilization Task Force and has been a vocal advocate for our Senior community.

Laura has served on a local school site council as well as the San Juan Unified School District's Superintendent's Parent Advisory Committee (SPAC). She was Citrus Heights' representative on the Sacramento County Children and Families Commission Blue Ribbon Task Force in 2000. She is a past board member of the Adopt-a-Child Abuse Caseworker program helping to partner local churches and synagogues with County caseworkers to provide resources to help re-unite families. She is a parent who has actively worked to improve the quality of life for families in our region.

Laura has served our community as a Girl Scout Leader and as a Sunday School teacher at Bayside Church. She has written numerous grants to assist local non-profit organizations and has donated her services as a writer and graphic artist to help local schools, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, PTA, youth and neighborhood organizations. Laura and her family have been active participants in the Citrus Heights Relay for Life (American Cancer Society), Brighten the Boulevard, the Citrus Heights Red, White and Blue Parade, and the Annual Community Campout in Rusch Park.

"In addition to my community service experience, I have a 25-year background in business in the fields of construction and development, computer technology and medicine. I have the administrative and leadership skills necessary to successfully partner with other members of City Council, City Staff, and our Citizens to help bring Citrus Heights into the future."
