I was born in West Germany and, as the son of an career army father, got to travel a lot and spent a lot of exciting time in Germany, Texas, Colorado and Alabama. In 1979, I graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Following graduation I worked for many years as an electrical engineer on communication systems and instrumentation systems for Martin Marietta Corporation in Denver. In 1983 I came to work for FMC Corporation in San Jose. I worked with video display technologies and created work environments to make them easier and more comfortable to view. I also continued my studies and in 1987 received a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University.
My desire to learn and a need for a career, which would help people, led me to return to school full-time again. In 1992 I received a Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California Berkeley School of Optometry. I have been in private practice in San Jose since that time.
Since 2001 my wife and I have been very involved in supporting the Payne Home and School club. She has been directing the school play for the last two years. I am starting on my third year teaching math problem solving techniques to the 5th graders at lunchtime. I have served on the last two District facilities task forces and currently serve on the Moreland Personnel Commission. |
