Candidate for
Board Member; Alum Rock Union School District

I have lived in the Alum Rock community for over 30 years. I am a product of the school district, having attended Alum Rock schools from 1st through 8th grades. My 3 children have attended Alum Rock schools since kindergarten, with two now in high school. I have been involved in the workings of Alum Rock School District since 1996, when my oldest child was in kindergarten. I began at the school site and served as PTA secretary, a School Site Council member, Chairperson of the District Advisory Committee and Chair of the G.A.T.E. Advisory Committee. I began attending Alum Rock Board meetings in 2000 to keep abreast of what was going on in the district. As part of my commitment to education I completed my Graduate program and received a Master's Degree in Business in 2001. I was elected to my first term on the School Board in 2002, and I currently serve as Board President. As a Trustee I have committed to additional training and will complete the CA School Board Association's Master's in Governance program in October 2006, which is a specialized curriculum on the roles and responsibilities of school boards.
