My Stand on the IssuesBy Van-Ha To-CowellCandidate for Board Member; Lincoln Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Academic achievement is my top priority. I will make it a districtwide goal and focus on programs and practices to ensure success for Lincoln's increasingly diverse population. I will ensure that Lincoln lives within its means and makes prudent budget decisions. I will also work to have open & responsive communication with parents and staff.Lincoln schools' test scores have increased in the past few years. However, Lincoln schools need to be more competitive in comparison with similar schools. A significant number of Lincoln students are not proficient in math and reading. To work on narrowing the achievement gap, I will focus on community outreach, staff development, and practices that effectively ensure success for Lincoln's increasingly diverse student population. I will also look for ways to partner with the business community to expand vocational education. I will press for more open dialogue between the District and the community and strongly encourage parental involvement in Board activities. The Lincoln District must live within its means. I believe Lincoln's reserve fund must be above the 3% minimum required by the state. I will ensure significant oversight of bond revenues and the delivery of promised school facility improvements. |
