"I'll rather die fighting on my feet than to live the rest of my life on my knees" + Emiliano Zapata"Prefiero morir peleando de pie que vivir el resto de mi vida de rodillas". "I'll rather die fighting on my feet than to live the rest of my life on my knees" + Emiliano Zapata I demand a living wage and amnesty for all working people no matter their immigration status. The United States Constitution guarantees life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to every person, no matter their immigration status. I demand the United States Government stop violating the United States Constitution. No migrant should be forced to accept a second-class status. I demand the United States Government abide by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which guarantees protection of property and civil rights of Mexicans living in the captured lands of the United States. Immigration reform must begin with a living wage for all employees + documented, undocumented, American, Mexican, everybody. Employers lure people north of the border to work for cheap wages and no benefits thus forcing wages down and perpetrating the lie that Americans do not want the jobs the undocumented are forced to take. Black people in America were and continue to be oppressed by the United States. We understand discrimination. We understand isolation and separation. We also understand striving and fighting for economic chance and dignity. In 1850, Congress passed the Slave Fugitive Act which, like H.R. 4437, denied life and liberty to slaves. The Slave Fugitive Act was passed for the same reason the Sensenbrenner Bill was passed + to keep a permanent pool of cheap labor for greedy and wealthy America. I demand we stop Congress from putting a wedge between our black and brown communities. We are all workers and we must unite as a working class to demand this country invest in job training and stop the outsourcing of American jobs. We dedicate this movement to young Anthony Soltero and to Santos Reyes, who is serving a 26 year to life sentence for trying to obtain a driver's license and we thank Families to Amend California's Three Strikes (FACTS) and Peter Camejo for bringing Santos' case to the public eye. The May 1st Marches had a devastating effect on the American economy so I have just one piece of advice to give to you. If Congress refuses to pass humane and just immigration reform, repeat the boycott and close this country down. Tierra y Libertad! Donna Warren is a field organizer for Families to Amend California's Three Strikes (FACTS) and a candidate for Lt. Governor, ID#1282992. |
