- Fiscally responsible government with a higher standard of excellence and accountability. A community of awareness and tolerance and an appreciation for the creative opportunities that make the 16th Congressional District a success.
- Advocate of change. It is time to look to the future while not ignoring the pain of the present.
- 'Can-do' philosophy. See the glass half full not half empty. Make it happen!
- Principled, but willing to listen and accept other points of view. Pragmatic but not at the expense of principle.
- Compassionate, caring, and understanding. Sympathy and empathy for other people's misfortunes.
- Non-judgmental and tolerant of other's differences. No one should be outcast from his/her own community. Every human being is valuable, regardless of circumstance, identity or status.
- Concern for civic responsibility, accountability and equal rights for all.
- Free choice. It is not Government's business to tell people how they ought to live behind their closed doors.
- No more wars except for self-defense.
- Bring US military forces back to the United States.
