EDUCATION: David A. Paterson received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University and a Juris Doctor degree from Hofstra University. OCCUPATION: David A. Paterson was elected to the New York State Senate in 1985. He has served as its Minority Leader since November 2002, becoming the first non-white legislative leader in New York State history.
