About Joseph Cho, PhD

Joseph Cho moved to Cerritos in 1976 with his wife, Lucy, and their three small children. As dedicated educators in their native country of South Korea, Joseph and Lucy value the importance of education and community. Their two sons, Andy and Tony, and daughter, Jia, all products of Cerritos Public Schools, are currently successful practicing attorneys in Southern California.

Upon his arrival in Cerritos, Joseph worked as a gas station attendant during the day and a janitor at night. After much effort and determination, he established a printing company, which he grew into a successful enterprise. In 2002, he was fortunate enough to sell his venture and retire.

Joseph then went back to school, and at age 62, earned his doctorate degree.

Determined to give back to his community, he has also devoted himself to community service. Joseph is an active member of the Cerritos Chamber of Commerce, the Rancho Southeast Association of Realtors, and the Hubert Humphrey Democratic Club. He is also a founder, and active board member, of the Mid Cities Korean American Chamber of Commerce.

In 2004, Joseph and his wife founded The Lucy and Joseph Cho Foundation - a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding giving through grant awards and establishing additional programs to assist the educational advancements of Cerritos area students. To date, they have provided educational funds for 16 local students.

As Joseph continues to serve the community, he now seeks election to the Cerritos City Council. As a resident for 30 years, he has watched Cerritos transform itself from a dairy farm community into the beautiful, cosmopolitan city that it is today. Joseph is dedicated to helping make Cerritos an even better place to live.

Joseph Cho will provide critical leadership by:

- Maintaining effective services within a balanced budget
- Maintaining focus on a strong sense of community
- Increasing senior citizen support services
- Decreasing crime + particularly residential property related
