A plan for thousands of residential units is no plan at all if it does not address all the potential problem!
I am against the "Residential Overlay Zone Master Plan" because of the density it brings to the neighborhoods. Our city prides itself to be an ideal living place for many southern Californians who move here because of better schools, to raise kids, to shop and to make a living. We ought to encourage keeping businesses, particularly manufacturing industries that are on a decline because of global competition. Jobs are critical to the health of a city and to encourage conversion to residential use does not help the City in attracting small manufacturing type of businesses. A high density residential project involves over four thousand units is like creating a city within a city. It does not conform to city standards and it adds strain to city services; from library to water and power and traffic and social services. There is always a boom and bust in the real estate cycle. When the economy goes south, many homes will be foreclosed and our city needs to be prepared for it.
