I will work to:
- Maintain a rigorous academic program that will prepare our students for the twenty-first century while meeting the demands of No Child Left Behind. It is critical to both our district and the future of our country that our students are educated to be outstanding workers in a global environment. In addition, we must get every student to reach his/her potential acheiving the basic premise of No Child Left Behind.
- Make informed choices and balance the competing needs of holding down taxes while providing an outstanding education for our children. Every budget year, the board must be prepared to make difficult choices about where tax dollars are spent. Our district has one of the highest tax rates in the state, and every dollar is precious. Every dollar must be spent judiciously and with the understanding that increased spending on one program or project will most likely result in reduced spending on another program
- Provide safe, well maintained facilities where our children can learn and play. We must build a middle school that will be suitable for our students for the next 50 years. The school must be built economically with minimal disruption to the students who are attending the SHMS school during construction. In addition, each of our other buildings must be maintained during and after the middle school construction to assure safe, appropriate facilities for our children and community.
- Require accountability from all district employees. Everyone in the district must be expected to do outstanding work in their job. Likewise, every employee must be respected for the work that they do to keep make our schools exceptional. These same high expectations should be passed along to students.
