Taking LVUSD Issues To Sacramento

I seek re-election to the Las Virgenes Unified School District to ensure that we keep our voice in Sacramento. When I first ran for office, I believed this job was simply about utilizing District resources to deliver the best possible education for our children. I was right, but that is only part of the job. A School Board member must shape, push and demand attention from California leadership.

Be clear on this: Sacramento has more impact and effect on public education than ever before. From funding controls and curricular demands to details in how we train our professionals, the Legislature is shaping the laws and regulations that affect our classrooms.

The issues that are driving public education in our state may not be representative of the issues in our District. As your School Board member, I work to represent the local voice. My plan for the next term is to make sure Sacramento understands our District's needs. Subjects we need to advance in the Capitol include:

Funding formulas that follow high-need students, not just high-need districts

Flexibility (from state mandates) for high achieving schools

State-funded training for teachers working with students with special needs

Funding for preschool students

Class size reduction money for targeted middle school grades

I hope that you will allow me to continue advocating for our schools and your children by re-electing me on November 6th.
