Board Member; Carmel Unified School District

Philosophy: I believe . . .

  • CUSD must continuously improve the educational environment for all of its students.
  • Board members must act as responsible stewards of the tax-payer's dollars.
  • The district must maintain high standards in order to achieve excellence.
  • CUSD leadership must work proactively with educators to create a rewarding environment where both students and teachers are inspired.

Goals for Continued Board Service: I will . . .
  • Ensure that students are fully prepared as they progress through each phase of education thus preparing them for job, career, or college.
    1. Establish and monitor district goals for educational excellence at all levels of education.
    2. Improve student performance in critical program areas, including math and foreign language.
    3. Ensure timely response to student needs when remediation is needed.
    4. Enhance student preparation for college admissions with stronger support in SAT and ACT exam preparation, college essay writing with faculty support, and other efforts in support of students' college ambitions.
    5. Increase the use of technology, where appropriate, to enhance student learning and to support struggling students.
    6. Support faculty in its efforts to provide excellence in education to all students by ensuring that faculty needs are met in the areas of facilities, professional development, classroom materials, and performance recognition.
    7. Encourage ongoing school district communication and outreach to parents and students in support of a strong school community.
  • Lead efforts to improve district efficiency and effectiveness through clear goals and expectations, improved communication, state-of-the-art technology, and the use of expertise and tools that are not currently utilized by the district.
    1. Participate and monitor closely the upcoming district technology audit.
    2. Ensure students and staff have access to technology that would benefit them.
    3. Ensure websites of district are properly managed and maintained.
  • Remain diligent regarding the fiscal responsibility and accountability of the board to the taxpayers who fund our schools.
    1. Monitor "Measure A" projects and spending. Ensure community receives a "Measure A" update on a regular basis.
    2. Monitor annual budget expenditures to ensure funds are spent wisely.
