To create an educational environment where students are empowered by the learning process, rather than imprisoned by it.

Vision Statement

Mike Gasca envisions a community where Teachers have the right to teach, students have the right to learn, and parents want to be involved.

 Putting Students Needs First  Involving Parents  Respecting Teachers & Staff

Goals

• Putting Students Needs First

 Increasing Student Safety  Confront harmful situations and provide corrective action

 Increasing Students Involvement  By giving students ownership of their education we can raise accountability

 Increasing Support Personnel  Actively pursue ways to increase counselors, nurses and other personnel

 Increasing Instructional Support Materials  So that every student has a textbook to use at home and at school

• Involving Parents

 Parent Teacher Communication  Provide avenues for parents to be involved in their child's education

 Parental Access to District Resources  Inform parents of all available resources and provide adequate access

 ESL Programs for Parents  All parents need to be involved in education and their needs should be addressed to allow participation

 Parental Knowledge of Educational Law  Parents need to be fully aware of the rights and responsibilities of the district and their children.

• Respecting Teachers

 Maximizing Education Funding  Encourage the reauthorization of TITLE 1, IDEA, ESEA to provide staff with more resources

 Involving them in ALL Decisions  This will allow the "experts" to be heard when making curriculum decisions

 Be Fair & Just during Negotiations  Listening to all parties involved, understanding the proposal of both parties, making a decision based on budget constraints and ratification, not personal philosophy.

 Providing 100% Contract Enforcement  So that staff is treated fairly and all obligations of the district are fulfilled.

• Respecting Staff

 Discouraging Pension Overhaul  Initiatives that are a detriment to employee retirement should be discouraged  Protecting Classified Jobs  Work to block measures that are designed to contract out classified jobs

 Discourage Social Security Privatization  For the safety and well being of Alvord Employees

 Influence COLA Increases  To continue to maintain and attract the highest quality staff

As a member of the Alvord School Board Mike will have accomplished the outlined Mission & Vision Statements, Objectives, & Goals outlined in this Plan. If you do not know where you are going you will never arrive, which is why Mike feels it is important to have a solid plan in place for bettering the educational needs of the Alvord community.

Mike Gasca is the TRUSTED choice for Education + and the BEST choice for Alvord Schools. He does not have an ulterior motive as a candidate, and have a genuine interest and investment in the success of the district. As the only candidate to attend Alvord Schools and work in the district, Mike has the passion, knowledge, and understanding to lead Alvord in the right direction benefiting students, parents, teachers, and staff alike.
