Proven LeadershipBy Ben Johnson, IICandidate for Board Member; Alvord Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I am seeking re-election to the Alvord Board of Education. I am confident that I have held true to my commitments to the students, parents and employees of the district The growth and development that has taken place at all of our schools confirms that I am dedicated to improving the learning environment for all students. My years of volunteer involvement in community affairs and present position as Board President have provided me with the experience and background that are necessary to continue as an effective representative on the Alvord Board of Education. The following will give you a sense of accomplishments since I have served as a board member: With strong community support, we passed a $57 million school bond to improve the condition of our existing schools and increased the number of classrooms to meet our ever-growing community. The revenue of the local bond combined with state resources has brought over $100 million to the district. Construction of RMK Elementary School and Villegas Middle School and the modernization of ten elementary schools, three middle schools and all three high schools. Through fiscal responsibility Alvord has funded $145 million in construction projects, without raising taxes. These projects have provided 200 new permenant classrooms throughout the District including two new schools: Lake Hills and Phillip K. Stokoe Elementary that opened in September. Construction of the Alvord District Stadium The International Baccalaureate Program and The Healthcare Academy with Kaiser. Measures such as the canine detection program have been a positive deterrent to help keep drugs and weapons off our campuses. I hope to provide each voter with sufficient facts upon which to base his or her decision on November 6th through neighborhood coffees and community forums. If you really want to help our children during the next four years, your support now and your vote for me November 6th will do it.
