It's time to ensure that our children get the EDUCATION they deserve, and are best able to utilize for thier FUTURELadies and Gentlemen: At current, our State allows our Children to begin taking the High School Exit Exam in the 10th Grade. I would like you to take a moment and put yourself in thier place. If you were in the 10th grade, knew that you had already passed the 2 REQUIRED tests needed to Graduate, what motivation would you have to continue? Unfortunatly, I can not help but feel that our children have the mind set of "Well I finished what I had too...so now it is time to "skate" thru the rest of High School,and enjoy my High School years, as long as I get the Credits I need to get my Diploma, everything else is fine". Although I will admit this does not apply to all our kids, there are those that it does. I would propose that we instead allow our children to begin taking the Exit Exam in the 11th Grade. This would allow for our schools to recieve the results back, have an opportunity to discuss the results with the Students and thier Parents and get them on track. While at the same time helping to ensure that the classes to get them there(level to Pass the Exam) are still being taken and passed. It is in part I believe that this is contributory to our Drop out Rate. There will be those that figure "Hey! I already passed the Exit Exam, so I must already know everything I need to to get on in Life". The reality is, that when Employers' considering coming into our Community one of the first things they look at is the Education Level of the Residents who live here. If the Education level is unable to sustain the Co. Requirement for Technology and learning capacity the only thing that will happen is that the Co. will look elsewhere. And unfortunatly that has occured all to often. |
