The Right Vision for Culver City
On the Issues
A Unifying force!
The Right Vision for Culver City
Culver City is a small town in geographic area, and at the same time, a diverse medium sized city. It has excellent schools, police, fire, public works, housing, sanitation, parks, transportation and cultural affairs departments. It is a true "full service" city.
To maintain and foster this unique character, Culver City needs a councilmember that is dedicated to:
PROTECTING / PRESERVING OUR NEIGHBORHOODS
THROUGH INTELLIGENT GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
- Initiating a comprehensive review of the City's General Plan for land use and redevelopment areas. The City needs this comprehensive review to help formulate a realistic direction in which Culver City must move in order to actualize its full potential. With a clear well defined comprehensive general plan Culver City residents will be empowered to help define what Culver City may look like 10, 30 or 50 years into the future. By encouraging residents to participate in this review, Culver City will be known as a city on the forefront of innovation while preserving the values long held by its citizens. Culver City needs a global view of itself rather than a myopic one. Culver City needs a unifier on the City Council.
Putting Families First
(Public Safety + Security)
- Maximizing current City revenue sources and identifying future revenue sources; promote clean industry; maintaining city services as such police, fire, public works among others; achieving mandated affordable housing requirements; and providing the economic and cultural conditions to stimulate growth in all areas of the city. Downtown and the east side of Culver City have experienced a renaissance during recent years. West Culver City residents must have the opportunity to participate in that area's unique future revitalization.
Business Friendly Culver City
- Identifying and providing creative economic incentives to attract more small businesses to relocate in Culver City. The life blood of a vibrant city is increased economic activity. A business friendly Culver City can provide the necessary revenues to maintain and improve city services the citizens require. A balanced city is a place where one can live, work, and raise families. A unifying approach will work to carefully maintain that balance.
Senior Citizens and Our Youth
- Supporting and expanding programs for our senior citizens and youth. Recognize that the Senior Center and the Teen Center provide needed services to these residents.
Why support Luther Henderson? Culver City would be well served at this time with a councilman that:
- Has a track record of working constructively with others for Culver City's best interest as a unifier rather than a divider.
- Has 13 years leadership experience monitoring the fiscal budgets of the Los Angeles Community College District (a $1.3 billion LACCD budget); has assisted in writing and formulating the budget process for the LACCD. The LACCD is the largest district in the nation and has appropriately ten to twelve times the budget of Culver City. In these economic times Culver City needs someone that has expertise with governmental budgets and is ready to address the $133.2 million City budget and $70 million Redevelopment Agency budget.
- Has over 17 years experience as an active commercial and residential real estate broker with an office located in Culver City. Clients have included labor organizations, college chancellors / faculty, religious organizations, manufacturing firms, a baseball hall of fame American League batting champion, civic leaders, among others. Culver City needs someone that can analyze and provide sound leadership in real estate investment opportunities to protect the city's best interests.
- Has served for 7 years on the Culver City Cultural Affairs Commission (former and current chair), member of the Culver City Exchange Club, Culver City Historical Society, Culver City Homeowners Association, and California Association of REALTORS. Graduate of the Culver City Police Department's Citizens Police Academy. Culver City needs someone that can work professionally with other council members for the best interests of city residents.
- Has over 31 years experience in education (26 years as a Professor of Music and Humanities at Los Angeles City College), and Music Director - Southeast Symphony Orchestra.
I am running for City Council because Culver City will be well served with someone who has a track record of being a unifier + bringing people together to work constructively on issues; who has expertise and experience in governmental budgets, real estate planning and development, cultural affairs innovations, and educational and fiscal accountability.
My wife Patricia and I have enjoyed the quality of life that Culver City affords. I have made a commitment to serve as a way to pay back the community that I am proud to call my home. I ask for your support and vote on April 8, 2008. For more information visit our web site http://www.LutherHendersonForCouncil.Org. Thank you.
