Post-Secondary EducationNorthwestern PA needs more affordable post secondary education programs. Many PA counties offer high school graduates community college programs. The community colleges offer students college transfer programs, two year associates programs, as well as career technical programs. These programs provide the participants with national and industry certifications. These programs are offered at a fraction of the cost of the private schools offering similar programs. Many of these private schools do not meet the national or industry standards, though. With our lower median household incomes in NW PA - many of our families balk at further education. It just seems astronomical to bear the financial burden of further education. Our students could attend other community colleges, but that requires living in those communities and thus incurring further, unneccessary expenses. If our graduates continue their education - we will have a better trained work force and be able to attract more industry, and build on our economic infrastructure. Attracting more industry will be easier, as we will have a more technically trained work force. |
