Build partnerships to find local economic solutions.First, I am interested in attacking economic development issues. Some 12,000 people a day leave Lompoc to drive to work. What do the other areas have that we don't have? Businesses with jobs! I believe we need to actively develop conditions that will allow job-producing, revenue-generating businesses in the Lompoc area where the workforce is. We need to explore technology transfers and business incubation, along with jump-starting and providing incentives for the development of local businesses. In both Orcutt and Lompoc, we need to develop a "development vision" and entice those types of developments which are consistent with the needs and character and planning of our communities; not wait for outside developers to decide our destiny. Once desired commercial, revenue-generating development has been identified, we need to assist them through the process, not fee or tax them to death. |
