Political Philosophy for Robert Cullen

King City is a fantastic community with a lot of potential. I am a homeowner, business owner, and someone who will be raising a family here. King City is my home, my roots are laid, and I have no plans on going anywhere else. I want to work hard to make the town the absolute best it can be. King City is a fantastic community. But it is one that needs some help and some direction for the future. I firmly believe that we need to find ways to bring businesses, and therefore jobs, to town. We have reliable labor, cheap land, and highway 101 going right through town. We are a perfect place for light manufacturing and other companies to locate. It's imperative that we actively market King City as business-friendly. More jobs means more of our residents having jobs, which means they have money to shop in our stores and buy homes. Everyone wins. We also need to find ways to attract tourism dollars. Each day we have millions of tourist dollars driving up and down the highway. We have a lot to offer. Besides gas stations, restaurants and hotels we have San Lorenzo Park, the fairgrounds, nearby wineries, a golf course, an airport, and The Pinnacles in our backyard. Having said that, we need to find new and better ways to draw tourists into town. To do that we need to fix our streets, improve downtown, have good signs to draw people into town, and find ways to market King City as a tourist destination. We can do it, but it's going to take work. There are other issues in town that need to be addressed. King City should be seen as a family-friendly and safe town. When gang-related violence occurs it undermines that vision. As residents we need to stand up and not tolerate this sort of activity. If elected to City Council I will work to promote a safe environment. A good start is the recent acquisition of a police dog. There are other things we can do as well. King City is in need of after school programs to provide our kids with quality activities and programs. That is something I'd like to work on if elected. |
