Fasten your seatbelts, we're in for a tough ride. Fuel costs have forced many airlines to reconsider their marketing strategy about flying into small markets. To the airlines, Monterey is a small market.

Because we're a small market we may lose more airline service. Are we prepared? How are we going to be ready for decreased airline service?

At the same time Monterey Airport's contingency funds have shrunk to dangerously low levels.

My philosophy is to stop the need to take money from the airport's contingency monies and to aggressively seek a low cost airline to replace the departure of ExpressJet and reduced airline schedules.
