POSITION PAPER ON THE DISTRICT HOSPITAL BOARD ACTIONS

OPEN PUBLIC ACCESS TO THE BOARD AND THE MANAGEMENT TRANSACTIONS WITH ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRANSPARENCY
My name is Nizar (Nick) Yaqub, M.D., MPHE. I completed my graduate medical education at the University of Chicago and received a Master Degree in Professional Health Education from University of Illinois at Chicago. I practiced at SVMH for twelve years. I believe the time is now to adopt and implement a new mission to reflect modern realities of healthcare. I believe the time is now for the Board to exercise full responsibility over the management actions and prevent abuses and waste of tax payers funds.

Policy Changes Needed

  • * Cut individuals' out of pocket hospital cost: Individuals should not pay more than for profit insurance companies

  • * End wasteful cronyism and questionable shady deals: All transactions are transparent through proper bids with no shady deals to the "good old boys"

  • * Develop a new mission reflecting the new role of public hospitals considering current healthcare realities: Public Hospitals are required to provide more than mere access to their constituents, they have a duty to assist in reducing their financial burdens and hardships

Actions Required by the Board
  • Comprehensive independent assessment of the district's mission and priorities

  • Independent outside review of all investments, compensations and partnerships

  • Transparency of operation and all transactions

  • Accountability to all decisions made by the management

  • Maintain effective hospital operation with focus on serving residents instead of profiteers, leadership in containing cost and assist the underinsured and uninsured

  • Treat the district residents fairly with respect, compassion and sense of ownership
