Roberta Fonzi Candidate for Atascadero City Council

Roberta Fonzi has been a resident of Atascadero since her parents moved here in 1956. She graduated from local schools, including Atascadero High School, and graduated with honors from both Cuesta College and California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

Heavily involved in local issues, Roberta currently serves as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Atascadero, bringing her knowledge of land use, tax policy and real estate to benefit the people of Atascadero. She has served nearly 10 years on the Planning Commission, and is currently serving her second term as its Chairperson.

In terms of background, Roberta worked for the County of San Luis Obispo in the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) as a senior analyst until 1981, and was the principle author of both the Atascadero Incorporation Study and the County Special Districts Study, under the direction of Barbara Carlson, Director of LAFCO at that time.

In the 1980's she traveled widely with her husband, an active duty Army officer, throughout the United States and Europe, living overseas for five years, experiencing many different cultures, and studying land and resource use policies under urban conditions.

Roberta returned to her permanent residence in Atascadero in the early 1990's. She worked at Cuesta College developing curriculum for four years, was employed as an assistant to a local financial planner in San Luis Obispo, taught math and computers part-time at Atascadero's local Continuation High School, and finally, obtained her Realtor's License and has worked for herself in Atascadero since 2002. She has been a top agent in her Century 21 office for four years running.

She has been married to her husband 34 years and has four children, all attending various colleges at this time; her oldest son served in Iraq in 2004 as a combat corpsman with the 1st Marine Division.
