A Positive Del Rio Project

With thoughful compromise we can develop a commercially viable project at the Del Rio intersection that protects adjacent residential neighborhoods.
Development at the Del Rio intersection can offer the best opportunity for us to work together for a project we can all support. It will require thoughtful compromise, but consider how we can all benefit from:

  • An economically viable commercial project consistent with the general plan
  • Accompanying shops and restaurants
  • Protecting adjacent residential neighborhoods
  • Increased opportunities to spend our shopping dollars here.

Atascadero has the highest median income in the county, yet the lowest sales tax revenues. Developing a project of this sort will help keep sales tax revenue here and attract other new businesses.

Whether we, as a community, pass the Shield Initiative (Measure D-08) or not, the most favorable project at Del Rio is one that is consistent with our general plan. Since WalMart owns the property, it may be a WalMart. But progress can only be made by working together, and I plan to lead such efforts.
