Since her election to Menlo Park City Council in 2004, Kelly Fergusson has been known for inclusive, reasoned governing. As Mayor, her work in developing greater transparency in council procedures, signing the Mayors' Climate Agreement, planning a new vision for downtown, helping save Kepler's book store, and encouraging green businesses has made Menlo Park a local destination for environmentally facing "Green Alley" retail organizations. Councilwoman Fergusson participates in several committees and boards in and related to her role in Menlo Park, including as a member of the state Environmental Quality Policy Committee, League of California Cities, the Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency (BAWSCA) Board of Directors, City/County Associations of Governments(C/CAG) Board of Directors, and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG), Coalition for Expanded Transit (CETS). She currently sits on the Advisory Council of Peninsula Volunteers, she served as a Menlo Park Planning Commissioner from 2002-2004, a member of the O'Connor Tract Co-operative Water Company Board of Directors from 1998-2004, and she has been a member of the Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce since 2003. In 1994, she was a Fellow in the U.S. House of Representatives for the Public Works and Transportation Committee chaired by Congressman Norm Mineta where she developed recommendations regarding watershed-wide regulatory approach, GIS capabilities for draft 1994 Clean Water Act amendments. Professionally, Kelly Fergusson advises cities and counties on clean energy projects including energy conservation, water conservation, and renewable energy generation (solar, wind, biogas) that pay for themselves with energy and water savings. As a Civil Engineer, she is experienced in geographic information systems, public works, planning and facilities management. Fergusson earned a B.S. in Applied Earth Sciences and a Masters and Ph.D. from Stanford University in Civil Engineering. She lives in the Willows neighborhood of Menlo Park with her husband and two children. |
