Education Reform

By Michael A. "Mike" Dincher

Candidate for State Senator; District 23

This information is provided by the candidate
The educational system must be reevaluated to improve taxpayers' return on investment.
Education The increasing costs of public education are placing an ever increasing burden on the state budget. Property tax reform is not in itself the answer. Reforming education should include the following; an end to act 48, the re-evaluation of the current pension system and the restructuring of the Pennsylvania Higher education Assistance Agency (PHEAA). Improving the pool of potential administrators can only be accomplished by redefining the qualification and certification requirements for principals and superintendents of schools and school districts to include individuals outside the current system. Higher Education tuition is out pacing inflation which in combination with less college loan availability creates financial difficulty for families choosing to send their children to college. Limiting taxpayer funding to public institutions can help reduce or hold the line on tuition increases. We must also begin analyzing data and study the results of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) policies as well as the PSSA test results and use the information to make decisions for reform.
