Family Biography - Abbreviated
I am the youngest of two daughters born in Los Angeles, California to Corina and Amador Solis. My mother was born in Miami, Arizona and my father in Salt Lake City, Utah. My grandparents are from Zacatecas and Durango, Mexico. My father served in the infantry in WWII and marched across Europe receiving a Bronze Star and an Infantry Medal for his service on the front lines. Following his Honorable Discharge from the Army my parents met at a dance at the Palladium in Hollywood, California and soon married.
My mother owned and operated her own dance studio in East Los Angeles and my father owned and operated his own barber shop first in Beverly Hills and later in East Los Angeles where through his acquaintance with a Judge from the East Los Angeles Municipal Court, whose hair he cut, he was introduced to the field of court interpreting. He began to work as a Spanish Interpreter. In May 1964 he opened an All Language Interpreting Agency which is still in business today.
I attended Our Lady of Loretto and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Elementary Schools in Los Angeles, California. My family relocated to Glendale, California in 1972 where I attended Holy Family Girls Catholic High School. My senior year of high school was spent at Mount Saint Mary's College, Doheny Campus in the Optional Learning Program. I received my High School Diploma from St. Joseph's High School in Lakewood, California. I attended East Los Angeles College where I graduated with an AA degree. I transferred to California State University Los Angeles where I graduated in 1982 earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a Pre-Law Minor.
I was married in 1980 and divorced in 1986. My wonderful and challenging son, Amador Christian Solis-Cabrera, was born in 1985. We resided together in Glendale, California, in a home I purchased in the Summer of 1993. In August 2004, we moved out of our home to my childhood home to assist my 84 year old father in the care of my 85 year old mother who has Alzheimer's. I now rent the home I own in Glendale.
My primary work is as the Chief Operating Officer in my parents interpreting agency. I started working as a Spanish interpreter at the age of 17. I began my interpreting career as a volunteer Spanish Interpreter at Children's Hospital Los Angeles during my senior year of high school. In June 1988 I received a Certificate in Workers' Compensation Law and Practices from the University of La Verne College of Law. In 1989 I started my own business as a Workers' Compensation Consultant, my first corporate client was the Los Angeles Dodgers. I have expanded my business endeavors to include tax preparation and notarial work. I became a California Real Estate Agent in 2002 and a State Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Associate in 2007. I am awaiting my certification by the State of California as a Certified Criminal Justice Addiction Professional.
I am a Catholic Christian and have been a parishioner of Incarnation Catholic Church since the age of thirteen. My son and I love and appreciate our church community where we endeavor to serve our Lord in whatever capacity He desires. My decision to get involved in community activities like Civic Angels, the Los Angeles Neighborhood Council System, Glendale Human Relations Coalition, Glendale Seeds of Peace, Atwater Churches United for Peace & Reconciliation, the LAPD Hispanic and Religious Forums, and as an Assistant Catholic Chaplain at the L.A. Sheriff's Twin Tower Correctional Facility stems from my belief that we are stewards and blessed with certain talents and treasures which obligate us to serve our community. Shalom. |
