|
Dan Nowak has been a resident of Monroeville since 1975 with the exception of the period from 1997 to 2007 when he had to take work in Olean NY and lived in Bradford PA. During that time, he kept his house in Monroeville, where his grown sons resided. When an opportunity to work for Siemens Environmental Systems and Services in Pittsburgh arose, Dan and his wife returned to Monroeville. Dan started his volunteer and public service work in the early 1980s by working with the Monroeville Historical Society as a volunteer, board member and board president and with the Garden City Community Association as both a board member and vice chair. The community association work included the fight against wholesale rezoning in 1987 and the fight against an arena a few years later. In 1988, Dan ran unsuccessfully for state representative and a year later was elected to his first term on the Gateway School Board, followed by a second term four years later. The second term was cut short by a year when he had to take a job in Olean, NY, working for the Dresser-Rand Company. While serving on the Gateway School Board from 1989 trough 1996, Dan also served on the boards of the Eastern Area special schools and the Forbes Road vocational schools and as the school board representative to the Monroeville Parks and Recreation Committee. While working out of the region in Olean NY, Dan served as an unpaid board member for the Olean Area Federal Credit Union, a credit union with over $150 million in assets, for eight years. Since returning to Monroeville in 2007, Dan has resumed his work with the Historical Society and, after attending a few school board meetings in 2008, decided that his talents and experience would be of benefit to the district and community. |
