Pittsburgh Values: Hard Work & Family

Christine was raised in the tradition of hard work. Her father is a member of Local Union No. 66 and demonstrated how there is no substitution for rolling up your sleeves and getting the job done. Her mother Rosie was a consummate room parent and Girl Scout leader, always giving of her time and talents. Christine was the first in her family to attend college and her three siblings followed suit. With Christine's own parents putting a high value on education, she believes a student's success is directly related to involved parents.

An Advocate for Women, Children and Families

For nearly a decade, Christine has spoken out on behalf of women, children and families. Most recently, she has been part of a nationwide task force to conceptualize a new advocacy program that addresses economic justice to combat domestic violence. From working expanding S-CHIP for children and mothers to working for minority access to health care, and to moving fair pay for women into law, Christine has been passionate about her volunteer efforts. In 2008, Christine received the "Emerging Leader Award". Christine will use her public policy background to be an advocate for the students and parents of District 1.

A Fiscal Background with a Focus on Government Funded Programs

After her public school education, Christine worked full-time as a legal assistant to put herself through college. She graduated from Chatham University with a degree in Accounting. Christine has extensive background in the area of government funded programs and has helped the federal government recover millions of dollars in fraud and abuse. If elected, Christine will bring this important set of skills to the school board as we look to oversee $43.2 million dollars from the federal stimulus package as well as a $563+ million school budget.
