George had heard of La Habra Heights from co-workers back in 1987, but never thought that, one day, he would make it his home. In the summer of 2002, George and his wife Julie moved to the Heights after a long and arduous search for a place to settle down. The property was one of the original orchards in the area, dating back to 1924. Over the years, the previous owner planted an array of fruit trees supplementing the avocado and orange trees. The Edwards brought back many of the trees that had been neglected and added a number of others. In 2004, S & B Orchards was established as a working grove on their property.
While the parcel could sustain a larger home, the Edwards' focus was on preserving the rural character of the community by maintaining a more traditional farmhouse and keeping the land open. This is also in line with the City's Residential/Agricultural zoning designation for the Heights. It's always been their philosophy that "It's not what you have, but what you do". Today, Julie and George both belong to various community based organizations. They are among several families in the city that own private fire engines, that make up the Heights Fire Watch Type 1 patrol program.
