Political Philosophy for Debra A. Stern
Candidate for |
My core political belief is that leadership matters. I will leverage the city council to ask publicly what should be done that we are not doing to address violent crime, youth violence and basic quality of life issues. That is the appropriate role of a council member. No city council member will solve Mount Vernon's considerable problems alone. No political party is going to fix it quick. We cannot vote our way out of this. Small but meaningful action steps by hundreds of residents will gradually transform our culture. This is happening in other urban centers and it can happen here. The true heroes in this intervention are those special people with access to the hearts of the young people in need of better options and a better tomorrow. Community leaders - including law enforcement officials, probation officers, clergy, social workers, health workers, educators and yes, political leaders, have already been meeting for months and together we can all play a role. |
