1. What are your Qualifications for Office? (50 word limit)
Answer from Julie Matheny:
I feel I am qualified for office because I am a lifelong resident of Springdale and have gained the knowledge of how the city operates based on my service on the various Boards and organizations listed above.
2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)
Answer from Julie Matheny:
For the last 20 years the 2nd district has become stagnant. We need to increase the communication between your city representative on Council and you the resident. You deserve at least an annual "Council Representative Night In" where we convene and have the forum to provide feedback, suggestions, concerns and yes criticism about various issues that may be affecting our City. If elected I pledge you will have that voice.
3. What two actions would you promote to enhance city revenue or decrease city expenditures in order to balance the city budget, given the current economic conditions? (100 word limit)
Answer from Julie Matheny:
I would make decisions on the city budget in a similar manner that I would handle my own personal budget. When revenues are down you need to control spending. I would support appropriate cuts that would not directly affect our quality of life. That being said, I would fight very hard to keep the current number of police and firefighters on the street. I am also a big advocate of our leaf and debris programs.
4. What steps should the local government take to ensure that the quality of rental property meets minimum legal standards? (100 word limit)
Answer from Julie Matheny:
I am very proud that The City of Springdale has implemented " The Single Family Rental Property Licensing Program". This program helps maintain our property values and holds rental property owners to the same standards as homeowners who reside in their own home.
