Promises Made, Promises Kept...
1. Reduced the bureaucracy and put the classroom first...

-Passed the Executive Committee Reorganization,
eliminating top-line administrative positions and
freeing up money for more important priorities like our
new Student Success Centers.

2. Made great progress in Student Success / College Accessibility...

-Partnered with LBUSD and CSULB in signing the Long Beach
College Promise

-Sponsored the Gateway to Greatness scholarship program to
provide a tuition-free first semester by 2011

-Created the Textbook Affordability Taskforce

-Made LBCC one of just two 2009 recipients of the state
Chancellor's Office's Student Success Award

3. Strengthened the local economy...

Mark has been a tireless advocate for the college's
Workforce Training Programs. This past year, LBCC
became the state's most successful applicant for grant
funding in the California Clean Energy Workforce
Training Program, which will train people for the "green
jobs revolution" of the future.
