Creating Viable and Stable CommunitiesBy Pamela A. DelissioCandidate for State Representative; District 194; Democratic Party | |

In order to thrive, communities must offer citizens cost effective public services. Identifying and remedying the root cause of pervasive problems will help communities to retain tax paying citizens. For example, a strategy for crime prevention must focus on a root cause of crime -- the under funding of our public education system. I support increasing state funding for local school districts in accordance with Pennsylvania's Costing-Out Study. This reform will produce many positive outcomes, including greater equity between school districts, decreased local tax burden, and a better prepared workforce. When all citizens are gainfully employed, there are decreased costs associated with the criminal justice system, and improved quality of life in our communities. Learning is a lifelong event. There are many who have lost their jobs of 10, 20 or more years and have had to learn a new skill set to remain competitive in the workforce. Now more than ever, Pennsylvanians must have the opportunity to learn new trades and skills quickly and cost effectively. To achieve this end, I support well-funded and accessible community colleges and accelerated degree programs that partner with employers to prepare individuals to meet the demands of an ever changing economy. |
