As a child from an immigrant family (youngest of 7 children), I gravitated to the Democratic Party. Born and raised in Arizona, moving to California after college, and resident in Santa Monica for over 35 years, I became politically involved shortly after Rent Control (which I support and advocate) went into effect here. Rent Control, along with other progressive issues, has shown the importance of local involvement. As a former chair of a neighborhood group, former Rent Board Commissioner (1987-1989) and a former Planning Commissioner (2000-2008) I've been able to bring various experiences to bear on issues that affect us all. As a delegate to Los Angeles County Democratic Central Committee and to Democratic State Central Committee I've used my local experience to bring grassroots influence to resolutions, platform, endorsements, and decisions regarding legislation.
