Siavash Gharib came to Los Angeles in 1969 to attend the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) after completing his secondary education at Alborz High School in Tehran. Subsequent to his graduation with a BS degree in engineering from UCLA in 1974, he began his graduate work in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC). Following the completion of the requirements for his Doctoral degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1980 at USC, Siavash was awarded a Post Doctoral fellowship for two years to perform research in enhanced oil recovery processes under a contract with the United States Department of Energy.

Dr. Gharib's career expands across a wide range of industries. He was an Assistant Project Manager with Esso Towlid Roughan and Refining Company in Tehran, an Assistant Vice-President/Engineer with the Energy Project Finance Division of the First National Bank of Chicago, a Senior Research Associate at USC, and is currently a Principal Appraiser/Engineer in Los Angeles County Assessor's Office. In his current position, which he has held for the past 18 years, Dr. Gharib has been responsible for the assessment of oil fields and Cogeneration power plants in the County of Los Angeles. Dr Gharib is a registered Professional Petroleum Engineer in California and holds an advanced property appraisal certificate from the California State Board of Equalization.
