Since the Declaration of Independence clearly states that all people in this country have the right to "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness," then clearly each person is entitled to the commitment by our Government to health care from birth to death!The recent passing of Healthcare legislation is truly a milestone in our history, but it is only a beginning. We need to continue the fight to ensure that all people have health coverage throughout their lives, that pre-existing illness does not prevent insurability, there is portability, that there are no caps to coverage, and that premiums are affordable and reasonable. We need to continue to work until we have a public option with a single-payer format that will cover everyone while reducing the costs for both employers and insurees. In the meantime, we need to make sure that no law precludes the ability of each state to create a public option/ single-payer program. |
