Education and Qualifications:
     Richard Calderon entered law enforcement over 30 years ago after his brother was killed by senseless violence by gang members in San Jose. He has served as Police Chief of Gustine and as Captain with the San Jose Police Department. As Chief, he was the chair of the Merced County Police Chief's and Sheriff's Association. As a Police Captain he commanded San Jose's Western Division and was a commander for investigative units. He helped develop Mayor Reed's 5-year plan for the Mayor's Multi-Agency Gang Task force. Richard earned a BS Degree from San Jose State University and is currently enrolled in a Master's program in leadership. Representing the United States, he won two Silver Medals in international sports events. Richard Calderon is fluent in English and Spanish and he is conversant in Vietnamese.

Calderon will restore the Sheriff's Department to the level it once was. He will stop the excessive liability claims paid due to the Sheriff's Department actions. The Santa Clara County has paid about $8 million in claims over 6 years, including $990,000 to the Hell's Angels.

Richard will be readily accessible by holding public meetings seeking community input regarding enhancing public safety throughout the County.
