Statement of XAVIER CAMPOS, Candidate for
Member, San Jose City Council, District 5
Occupation: Planning Commissioner, City of San Jose Age: 43
Education and Qualifications:
I've lived in East San Jose my entire life working with my family and my neighbors to improve our community. Growing up, my parents taught us the value of hard work, education, community service, and civil rights.
For 22 years I've worked for nonprofits and government to reduce gang violence, stimulate economic growth and create jobs, develop programs to enable youth to succeed in school, and build new housing for seniors and families.
As a two-term San Jose Planning Commissioner, I've carefully approved construction projects and policies that benefit East San Jose residents by creating jobs and tax revenue, supporting the responsible growth of local businesses, reducing liquor licenses, and improving local property values.
As your Councilmember, I'll work together with you to further eliminate gang violence, create more good jobs, balance the City's budget, invest your tax dollars responsibly, support our local schools and students, and improve core city services that protect and improve our neighborhoods and our quality of life.
I am proud to be supported by San Jose Police Officers and Firefighters, Assemblyman Joe Coto, Supervisor George Shirakawa, Councilmember Nora Campos, and hundreds of residents, community leaders, educators, and business owners. Learn more about me at http://www.xaviercampos.com.
