Distinguished 32-year career with FBI, earned the Meritorious Executive Award from the President of the United States. Established the Joint Terrorism Task Force, Cyber Crimes Squad, and the nation's first Regional Computer Forensic Laboratory. Served as Assistant Sheriff overseeing the Law Enforcement Services Bureau, the communications center and the crime laboratory. Promoted to Undersheriff in 2005, created Cold Case Forensic Team, Sex Crimes Investigation Unit, and Office of Inspectional Services. Became Sheriff in 2009, established DNA Rapid Response Team &Border Crimes Initiative; secured millions in federal funds to battle drug smuggling. Priorities: Make San Diego County the safest urban county in America. Develop and maintain effective partnerships among law enforcement and prosecution agencies at local, state and federal levels. Steer the department through these tough economic times by focusing resources on our core public mission. Jay La Suer 108,650 votes 23.1% Occupation: Retired Undersheriff, San Diego Priorities: Work with Fed. authorities to reduce border crime & Illegal entry into SD Co. Place a special emphasis on protecting families from dangerous sexual predators. Respect and support citizens rights provided bu the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution. Jim Duffy 97,765 votes 20.7% Occupation: Chief of Staff 27 year Veteran of Law Enforcement San Diego County Sheriffs Lieutenant Chief of Staff to County Supervisor Son of Sheriff John Duffy San Diego Native Priorities: Cut spending on non-essential staff to get more Deputies on the street.
