Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui represents the Sacramento region in the United States House of Representatives making sure her constituent's voices are heard in Washington, D.C. She is a member of two of the House's most powerful committees + the House Rules Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee. One of Rep. Matsui's top priorities has been to increase the level of flood protection in the Sacramento area. Rep. Matsui secured the authorization for the critical Folsom Dam Joint Federal Project which is key to Sacramento's flood protection. This spillway will significantly increase the level of flood protection in the Sacramento region within the next decade. Another top priority of Rep. Matsui's is improving Sacramento's transportation systems. Helping to meet our areas transportation needs in the future requires an investment in our region's public transit and roadway infrastructure. This investment will not only be good for families and business alike, but will help clean up our air and preserve our quality of life. Another top priority of the Congresswoman's is making sure Sacramento has a diverse and growing economic base. Creating and encouraging the clean technology sector is important to Sacramento's future. As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee Rep. Matsui has been able to assist in this growth. Prior to representing Sacramento in Congress, Rep. Matsui worked for six years as a senior advisor to President Bill Clinton. After her work at the White House, Rep. Matsui represented clients as a government relations advisor to a large Washington, D.C. law firm. Before coming to Congress, Representative Matsui, served on numerous advisory boards, community organizations, and honorary committees in Sacramento and in Washington, DC. She was President and Chairwoman of the Board for the KVIE public television station in Sacramento, and she served in leadership capacities for the Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento Children's Home, Meridian International Center, Arena Stage, and Woodrow Wilson Center Board of Trustees. Rep. Matsui currently serves on the Smithsonian Institution's Board of Regents overseeing the operation of the Institution and its world renown museums. Rep. Matsui grew up on a farm in Dinuba, California and met her husband, the late Congressman Bob Matsui, while earning her Bachelor's Degree from the University of California at Berkeley. She has one son, Brian, who is a practicing attorney in the Washington, DC area. She has two young grandchildren, Anna and Robby. |
