Butte County, CA | November 2, 2010 Election |
A Critical Time For Oroville GovernmentBy Dan GordonCandidate for Council Member; City of Oroville | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Our state as a whole is in trouble and for the past two years our City Council has been deadlocked between two rival factions unwilling to work together to benefit our City. We need Council Members who will work together to make Oroville GREAT and a better place to live! Most of all we need good, new jobs. This means doing everyting we can to help our present businesses thrive in a terrible economy while doing everything we can to encourage new business to come to Oroville. We need a great quality discount food market that really offers low prices. We need to clear out the slum at the west end of Montgomery and create a wonderful new Gateway there to our City with new businesses. We need to use the federal funds available to restore the Civic Auditorium to its former greatness of it's original design for use as a mini-convention center beside the old downtown to help those businesses. We need to renovate the Oroville Inn to the deluxe residence and businesses it should be. Six years ago I showed the City Admistration how we could provide free grants and federal and state tax breaks to more than 300 of the historic homes in our downtown historic district at no cost to the city. The administration decided not to do that and not to tell anyone about those programs. With me elected to the Council we can undertake that free program. Now that the people of Chico have elected an anti-growth City Council and apparently decided to oppose encouraging employment development in that city, we have an even better chance of advancing the cause of Oroville if we elect the right people to government here. I ask for your support. |
