Candidate StatementBy Arda ClarkCandidate for Board Member; Redondo Beach Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I believe, with all my heart, in public education. Well-educated children grow into informed citizens who contribute to an enduring democracy. My family has cherished education for generations. My great-grandfather was a college professor; my grandmother was a writer and teacher; my father was a teacher and school board member; and my sister is a college professor. I hold BA and MA degrees in English. Following college, I worked for ten years as a technical writer. I continue to write, alongside my work in real estate. I have written two books for middle-school students: Dyslexia and Brain Tumors. Redondo Beach has been my home for 30 years. Here, my husband Carl and I have raised our children, all of whom attended Redondo Beach schools. Over 30 years, I have acquired a thorough understanding of the strengths and challenges of our school district. My understanding has been honed in recent years while watching Carl serve as a school trustee. I have learned that good trustees are objective thinkers who listen to diverse viewpoints and make fair, reasoned decisions that benefit students. I believe that I am such an objective thinker, and I am eager to devote my energies to our students. |
