Promote a better business environment and create jobs

Terry believes that San Mateo County could be a magnet for scientific research and development, biotech, clean green and other start-up ventures. As Supervisor, Terry will leverage tax incentives, private, state and federal grant dollars, and cut through burdensome regulations for businesses. She supports the creation of an economic development task force to help attract new business and create jobs.

Reform government

Terry holds a disciplined, long-term view to managing the community's tax dollars. She supports funding essential programs based on need and priority and would periodically reevaluate county programs to ensure they are performing as promised. Terry believes we can save money by streamlining management and holding down employee costs.

Expand transportation options

As Supervisor, Terry will advocate for the expansion of transportation options throughout the county. She has been elected twice by the mayors of the county to the San Mateo County Transportation Authority, where she is pressing for a county-wide transportation plan that will prioritize projects to attract both state and federal funding. This plan would ensure the survival of Caltrain, establish a network of east-west connections to public transit and offer improved infrastructure. In addition, Terry will continue to be a leader in advocating for a high speed rail route that, if built, is responsive to community concerns and fits into San Mateo County's larger transportation plan.

Promote environmental sustainability

As Supervisor, Terry will continue to promote the need for environmental sustainability and green initiatives. As Mayor of Burlingame, she started Burlingame's Green Ribbon Task Force, signed the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement and guided the adoption of the city's Climate Action Plan. As a member of San Mateo County's Utilities and Sustainability Task Force, she helped develop the county's energy, water and sustainability plan. She has championed car sharing, electric charging stations and a pre-tax commuter benefit that saves commuters 40 percent on their public transit dollars.
