Can Our Own Communities Serve as Financial Safe Havens in Troubled Times?
Local community members can invest in local properties acquired through foreclosure by the Federal government or government-sponsored entities (i.e., Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac) through a public/private ownership structure in an A/B share company in which the government swaps its property interest for non-voting shares of the company. This concept could be applied also to state- and county-owned real estate and other assets.
