Member Council; Village of Golf Manor; Unexpired Term Ending 12/01/13

It is really difficult to maintain a small village with its own police, fire, paramedic and maintenance services. We have been very fortunate to have been our own community since 1947. We have been blessed with having one of the best police, fire and paramedic departments in the area. Our maintenance department does an excellent job with snow removal and maintaining our beautification. A safe community is an asset for its residents and makes people want to live here and raise families.

Everyday it's a challenge to keep a community safe and prosperous. The most important asset a community has is its excellent employees who are dedicated to providing the excellent services. We in turn, need to keep our employees content and safe so they will want to work for us and provide excellent service for us.

I believe that keeping housing and properties maintained makes a community an appealing place to live for everyone. When properties are well maintained, the crime level in a community is lower. This in turn, makes people want to live in the community and make an investment in home ownership.

Due to the economic times that all communities are facing now, it is important for local government to apply for grant monies as Golf Manor has been doing. The property improvement grant that Golf Manor was awarded is improving our blighted areas. We need to continue applying for grants to continue improving our community and its infrastructure. We cannot do this alone with just our property taxes. Over 50% of our property taxes go to the Cincinnati Public Schools. Approximately, 35% of our property taxes go to Golf Manor to maintain our community. The rest goes to other levies, such as hospital, senior services, museums, the Cincinnati Zoo, etc. Grant monies are extremely important to a community's vitality.

Having nice parks where our children can play is important to a thriving community. Golf Manor is applying for a grant to improve our park on Wiehe Ave. Our children need a safe place to play; not in our streets where they are in great danger.

I believe it is the job of the village government to work hard to build a great community. Ordinances are created to keep our community safe and they need to be enforced so our community is an excellent place to call home. It is the government's job to spend tax monies wisely so we can provide and continue to provide excellent services for many more years.

I am proud to be a Golf Manor Councilmember who works hard for our community. I believe council members should be available to our residents to listen to them and their suggestions for improving our community. This communication will only make our community a better place to live.
