Political Philosophy for Kevin Flynn
Candidate for |
We need to eliminate the partisan politics from governing our city. It has become increasingly clear that Council members, and the political parties, are only interested in `winning', not in making our city the best. The opportunity to change this culture is now, and the need has never been greater. Council members need to stop taking actions based on what will get them reelected and start acting based on what is best for our city. I am not running as a Democrat. I am not running as a Republican. I am running as a Cincinnatian. Council members say all you have to do on Council is `learn to count to 5 (meaning that you need to get the barest majority of votes to be successful.) I say that if we are to improve our city and address the crises facing our city which have been sidestepped by Council, we need to listen to and incorporate the best ideas of all 9 Council members. I will listen, research, investigate, and think about an issue, before speaking about the issue. I will use my experience, knowledge, and dedication to synthesize the best ideas and create a `win-win' solution to the challenges facing our city. These are simple ideas that make sense. I am running for City Council to be of service to the city I have lived in and loved all my life. I am not able to serve Cincinnati by putting out fires, or by putting my life on the line every day walking a police beat, or by picking up garbage, but I can serve Cincinnati and its citizens by making sure that our basic services are provided efficiently and effectively and without political gamesmanship. |
